See the inside of a houseboat

You know what they say with real estate the most important aspect is location, location, locations. And the houseboats have that in spades – where else can you literally dive into the water from your bed. But lately we’ve had a few folks call asking for more info on the inside of the houseboat. They are very comfortable! There’s room to eat, sleep, play cards, sun tan. You can fish from your bedroom!

We wanted to post a few pictures…

Fire at Timber Bay won’t slow us down

So we have some good news and some bad news. First the good news, we now have a much better view of the lake from the office. The bad news? On April 14, the lodge (cabin we live in during summer) burnt down. We had not yet moved out there. No one was hurt, but the cabin is total loss.

Again, no one was hurt and we’re counting our blessings. But we wanted to share the news and pictures with our family and guests. More importantly we want you to know that we plan to open next month as usual.

And our view of the lake – it’s beautiful!

Really clean water, a quiet, sandy beach, clean, cozy, cabiny cabins, fireplaces, s’mores….

Again, we’re letting our kind guests speak for the resort this week…

As a kid, I spent my summers on the most beautiful beach on one of the most beautiful, pristine and quiet lakes in Northern Minnesota. When it came time to find a resort to take my family to, I had some pretty high standards. I came across web information about Timber Bay Lodge and decided to give it a try 6 years ago, and have been coming back ever since. I can’t imagine going anywhere else.

Timber Bay captures everything I remember and loved about being a kid on a lake in the summer. Really clean water, a quiet, sandy beach, clean, cozy, cabiny cabins, fireplaces, s’mores….the list goes on. Of course, we didn’t have a host family when I was growing up, so the added pleasure of Ron, Beth, Courtney and Bailey (Rykken….Timber Bay owners) is great! They provide everything you need before you even know you need it. They leave you alone if you want to be left alone, and they invite you into all kinds of fun acitivities, if you want to be invited in.

The great thing about Timber Bay is that you can really make your vacation whatever you want it to be, in the most beautiful, welcoming and relaxing surroundings. Oh, is it August yet?

Thank you Rykkens!

They “treat us like family”

Sometimes we’re not sure what to say about the resort. This week we’re leaving it to some of our guests. If you want to send us your opinion, we would be honored to post that too. Thanks!

We have vacationed at Timber Bay every summer since 2003. The setting is spectacular with cabins nestled in towering pines overlooking Birch Lake, which affords twenty miles of uncrowded boating, skiing, tubing and fishing. Beth and Ron offer a number of great activities for kids and adults during the week, such as kids’ camp, champagne boat cruises, cookouts, bonfires, and volleyball. There’s great golf nearby and, quite frankly, one of the other reasons we keep coming back is that Beth, Ron and their staff treat us like family.

Ely Winter Festival Feb 3-13

We’re getting excited for the Ely Winter Fest! It’s right around the corner. There are a wide range of activities from the big Winter Fest dance on February 5 to the Mush with the Dogs, Howl with the Wolves on February 11-13. Here’s a quick description…

Discover winter in Minnesota by steering a team of strong and eager sleddogs through the snow-covered north woods, tracking wild wolves using real scientific radio telemetry equipment and spending an afternoon searching for sign of these elusive animals while snowshoeing in the Superior National Forest. A hot cup of cocoa at the end of the day will be the perfect complement to each day’s invigorating activities.
